Module 2: Understanding Factors that Impact Student Behavior & Our Responses

  • Module 2: Understanding Factors that Impact Student Behavior & Our Responses

In this module, we will explore factors that impact student behavior. We'll also look at the factors that impact our responses to these behaviors and will reflect on what we can do to ensure that we maintain regulated emotions when responding to difficult student behaviors.

Review the lesson (either in PPT or PDF, both file formats are posted but the presentations are the same) before completing the module assignments.

    1. Students will understand the relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and behavioral dysregulation, and how those experiences can influence student learning and interaction.
    2. Students will understand the core principles of trauma-informed care (safety, trustworthiness, peer support, empowerment, and cultural humility) and how these principles can be integrated into classroom practices.
    3. Students will define secondary trauma and understand how working with students who have experienced trauma can affect educators emotionally and physically and requires self-care.

Readings are embedded in the presentation.
